OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) is a multifunctional fiber optic testing tool that analyzes the characteristics and quality of optical fibers by sending light pulses and measuring the returning scattered and reflected signals. OTDR can precisely locate defects such as breaks and bends in the fiber and measure the fiber’s length and attenuation profile. It also detects the quality of fiber connectors and splice points, evaluating their reflection and attenuation. Some multifunctional OTDRs can test at multiple wavelengths for a more comprehensive assessment of fiber performance. Widely used for routine maintenance and troubleshooting in fiber optic networks, OTDRs help identify potential issues in advance, ensuring the reliability and performance of fiber optic networks.
